Kamala may have been the first to do many things but surely not the last

In January 2021, Kamala Harris made history as the first woman; the first black person of South Asian descent to become the Vice President of the United States.

Her ascent to this position was not only a personal achievement but also a groundbreaker in American politics. Kamala was born to immigrant parents from Jamaica and India. She grew up in California where she experienced the struggles of being a person of colour.

Throughout her career, she has been a vocal advocate for criminal justice reform, affordable healthcare and immigrant rights. However, as a woman of colour, she has faced scrutiny and criticism. Kamala faced a myriad of challenges some being;

Racism and sexism: as a black woman of Indian descent she was subjected to derogatory remarks stereotypes and attacks on her character. People also questioned her abilities and eligibility as a politician.

Despite these challenges, she demonstrates resilience determination and commitment. She refused to be limited by other perceptions. She has impacted thousands of lives across the globe with her unwavering courage and ability to overcome adversity.

She has also impacted youth in several ways. She has preached the values of never giving up on a once-set ambition and never letting anyone start you off your path. The way she delivers her thoughts with confidence, poise and conviction has inspired hundreds across the globe to great heights.

Kamala Harris has inspired countless individuals through her groundbreaking achievements and dedication to public service. As the first female Vice President of the United States, the first Black Vice President, and the first person of South Asian descent to hold this office, she has shattered glass ceilings and provided a powerful example of what is possible.

Her journey from a childhood in California to the highest levels of government is a testament to resilience and determination. Harris’s commitment to justice and equality has resonated with many, particularly young women and people of color who see her as a role model.
